I don’t ever drink. It diminishes my ability to ride my bicycle the next day, it diminishes my drive to create artwork, and generally, it makes me feel like shit. However… On this particular night, being over worked and over trained, and looking forward to a relatively light week starting tomorrow… I figured what the hell, and I enjoyed some (a lot, for me) beer. I started working on this drawing. After smudging around some basic shapes and outlines, eating dinner and sobering up a bit, I noticed how much it sucked, so I spent a few more hours cleaning it up, getting more sober and clear as I went. I don’t drink. This time however, it wasn’t such a bad idea.

I ran out of time for 11 second club. :( So I’m making...

Gettin’ Animatic-ey with my April submission for the 11 second club.

This boy is entering a science fair, and the teacher is WAY too harsh on him. He’s going to have a bunch of papers on his board, a Paper-Maché comet, and a jar of air.

This was the first times using Adobe Flash for an animatic. So far I like it!

Exploring some compositions for 11 Second Club… Trying to figure out story ideas, staging, composition, and all that good stuff! Still haven’t decided on exactly which road I’m going to take.

1st time modding malcolm, 1st time animating malcolm. I think I’ve figured out a system for modding, but in the process I thoroughly f@#$ed up the rig. I’m going to have to go through the steps again to get the look similar to this image. But this is basically the character I’m going for. This is for this months 11 Second Club.

He’s a self-important space doctor on a star ship, sort of like the robot-doctor character in “Alien.” Only he’s not trying to kill everyone to complete his mission, he’s a little more chill in comparison.

Also… This rig is amazing. The level of detail and malleability is almost daunting. Can’t wait to get crazy.

Two oddly paired friends going on a surfing trip, and the driver attempts to enlighten the passenger.

Gotta wait a few days for the voting to go down. I’m hoping for top 11!

I had the wonderful opportunity to work on this project for Sony’s Wonderbook: ‘Book of Spells’ over at Blind. It was an amazing experience to work with such a talented collection of people on a truly exciting project. I was lucky enough to help out with assorted aspects of production, and ended up doing some previs, rigging, animation and composting. Great times with great people! Here is a link to the case study that Blind made about it.
